Massage Therapy Treatments

Registered Massage Therapy (RMT)

Every appointment with one of our Registered Massage Therapists includes a thorough interview, assessment, treatment, and self-care instruction. Patients will be provided with the information to help themselves maintain their treatment results, and avoid future injury.

Some of the most commonly asked questions regarding Massage Therapy and are listed here. For information regarding pricing and services offered,
please see the Rates and Services page.

What are the benefits of massage?

Benefits of Massage Therapy include:
  • Stress relief and relaxation
  • Decreased stiffness and muscle tension
  • Decreased pain
  • Improved joint motion and flexibility
  • Improved circulation
  • Improved posture
  • Increased body awareness

Are there any side effects?

While negative side effects are not common, it is possible to experience some tenderness in the area treated. This should be mild, and should only last a day or two. Some patients have reported feeling slightly nauseous after a treatment. This usually means that a shorter treatment is indicated in the future. If you have any concerns, your therapist will be able to explain to you what side effects you are most likely to experience, and your treatment plan can be altered if necessary.

Is Massage Therapy painful?

Massage does not have to be painful to be effective. There are some techniques that can be uncomfortable, but your therapist will discuss this with you and ask that you let them know if you would like to change anything about your treatment at any point.

Other Types of Massage Appointments

Registered
Hot Stone Massage

Picture
A hot stone massage treatment involves your therapist using heated basalt stones to massage into tense muscle tissues. The heat allows the therapist to work into deeper layers of muscle, reducing tension and increasing circulation. This treatment is deeply relaxing, and can be very effective.

These appointments cost slightly more then a regular RMT treatment and are not available with every therapist.

Pregnancy Massage

Picture
There is a pregnancy cushioning system available for moms-to-be that allows them to lay face down for their treatment. With the cushion, a pregnant woman is able to lay fully supported on her stomach without increasing pressure on her abdomen.

There is no additional cost to use the pregnancy cushion during your treatment, but please make sure to book a pregnancy massage appointment so the cushion system can be properly reserved for you.

Relaxation Non-RMT Massage

Picture
Relaxation-only massage is offered by either an esthetician or massage graduate and is priced
at a discounted rate.

Please note that these practitioners are not registered with the College of Massage Therapists of BC and therefore treatments will not be covered by extended medical benefits.

For some practitioners these appointments are only available for a limited time; once our graduates get their registration the intention is for them to stay with us as RMTs.
